Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how Jason Ogden, the provider of Velocity, handles information when you use the app and its services. Contact jasonogdenfl@gmail.com for privacy questions or data requests.
Information you provide
Velocity processes account identifiers and sign-in information, your name, onboarding answers, selected character, goals, life priorities, preferences, reminder settings, journal text, voice recordings you submit, and tasks. It also processes generated transcripts, insights, scores, and personal-history information needed to provide the features you use. Information you choose to put in a journal may be sensitive. Avoid including information you do not want processed or that you are not authorized to share.
Local drafts and voice recording
Before signup, onboarding answers and voice retry information can remain on your device so you can resume. When you use the voice demo, audio is sent for transcription and its transcript is processed to suggest tasks. The demo does not save raw audio to Velocity's cloud storage and requests deletion of the transcription-provider copy after processing. A temporary device copy may remain available for retry. Voice journal recordings submitted after signup can be stored privately with your journal for playback. Once you sign in and save onboarding, your answers and generated tasks are attached to your account.
How information is used
We use information to authenticate you, save and synchronize your account, transcribe recordings, generate personal insights and task suggestions, retrieve relevant journal history, apply your preferences, verify subscriptions, provide support, and protect the service from abuse. Relevant journal excerpts and questions are processed when you use AI history features. These functions require server processing; journal content is not end-to-end encrypted between you and the AI processing service.
Service providers
Supabase provides authentication, database, and storage services. AssemblyAI processes submitted audio for transcription. OpenAI processes text for AI features, including task extraction, reflections, and personal-history retrieval. RevenueCat and Apple process purchase and subscription information, including account identifiers, product identifiers, receipts or transaction information, and subscription status. Apple handles payment details; Velocity does not receive your full payment-card number. Sign-in providers receive information needed for their authentication flows when you choose them. These providers process information under their applicable terms and privacy practices.
Usage and security information
We collect limited operational and onboarding-event information, such as feature events, timestamps, account or draft identifiers, permission outcomes, purchase outcomes, and error codes, to understand reliability and improve onboarding. We do not intentionally include raw audio, transcripts, journal prose, or goal text in product analytics. Hosting and infrastructure providers may process IP addresses and request metadata for operation and security. The pre-account voice service uses a server-salted IP hash and request counts to limit abuse.
Crash reports and usage analytics
We use Sentry to receive crash reports and PostHog to measure how Velocity is used, so we can fix problems and improve the app. These reports contain a random install ID that is not your account ID or email, your device model, iOS version, app version, which screen you were on, and simple app events such as starting a journal or viewing the paywall. They never contain your journal text, transcripts, recordings, goals, names or email address, and we do not use them for tracking you across other companies' apps or for advertising. You can turn this off at any time in Settings > Privacy > Share usage & crash reports; turning it off stops sending and deletes the install ID on your device. Crash reports and usage events are kept by Sentry and PostHog only as long as needed for these purposes, under their retention settings. Because they are not tied to your account, deleting your account does not remove them.
Sharing and advertising
We do not sell your journal content or share it with advertisers for targeted advertising. Content is shared with service providers as needed to deliver the features described here, not published to other users. We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, investigate abuse, or secure the service. We do not promise that all provider data is deleted immediately or that every provider has identical retention policies.
Retention and deletion
Account content is retained to provide your saved history and personalization until you delete it or request account deletion. Delete account in Settings removes the account and associated app data and recordings from active storage. Limited records may remain where needed for legal obligations, security, purchase records, or backup recovery under provider retention processes. There is no fixed automatic deletion period for all categories of data. Contact jasonogdenfl@gmail.com for access, correction, or deletion requests. We may verify your identity before acting. Uninstalling the app alone does not delete your cloud account or cancel a subscription.
Your choices and permissions
Microphone access is used for recording when you choose a voice feature. Notifications are optional; you can change permission in device Settings. You can edit supported profile information and delete supported content in the app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your data, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a privacy regulator. Contact us to exercise applicable rights. A self-service full-data export is not currently available.
Security and processing locations
We use encrypted network connections and account access controls to protect information. No service can guarantee absolute security. Our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries where they operate, which may have different data-protection rules from your location.
Children
Velocity is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, email jasonogdenfl@gmail.com so we can investigate and address deletion.
Updates and contact
We may update this policy to reflect changes to Velocity or its practices. The updated date appears at the top of this page; we will provide additional notice where required. For questions or requests, email jasonogdenfl@gmail.com.
